Dan’s innate ability to create inviting and unique home spaces was evident at the age of ten, when he successfully rearranged his parents’ home while they were out to dinner—a bold move they not only forgave but encouraged for years to come. Creativity runs in his family: his grandfather owned Berger Iron Works, an ornamental ironwork company that designed and fabricated residential and commercial projects, including wrought-iron stair railings, ornate gas light fixtures, and custom fencing and motorcar gates. His grandfather’s craftsmanship still graces some of Houston’s most prestigious homes, particularly in Memorial and River Oaks. Growing up surrounded by artistry and design left a lasting impression on Dan’s creative development.

Having lived in Southern California while attending Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Dan developed an enduring appreciation for the California Coastal aesthetic—effortlessly blending casual elegance, organic textures, and natural light. That influence continues to guide his work today, bringing a sense of ease, warmth, and timeless sophistication to each project, no matter the location.

During his professional career selling luxury custom goods to architects and interior designers, Dan recognized a growing demand from a new generation of clients seeking transparency and a no-nonsense approach to design. In response, in 2016 he founded Dan Alan Design, creating a streamlined, client-centered process that allows creativity to flourish while keeping the experience approachable and efficient.

Dan’s background in executive-level administration, combined with his MBA education, intrinsic design sensibility, and real estate expertise with Sotheby’s International Realty, give him a rare ability to view each project through both a creative and strategic lens. The result is a thoughtful, well-rounded approach that merges aesthetics with practicality.
